Scotch Whisky

Le origini di questo distillato sono state a lungo contese tra Scozia e Irlanda. In Scozia, il Whisky si esprime in tutte le sue forme e ogni tipologia ha le proprie peculiarità. La maggior parte dei Whisky scozzesi si caratterizza per la dolcezza del malto e la secca aromaticità della torba. A questo sentore affumicato più o meno spinto, si somma anche quello dato dal passaggio in botte.

Ogni zona di produzione, però, influisce nel carattere del Whisky. C'è chi preferisce quelli prodotti nell’isola di Islay, dalle note iodate e salmastre, secco e pungente. I Whisky delle Highlands risultano più complessi e corposi, avvolgenti e con un amabile sentore affumicato. Il tutto accentuato dal fatto che le botti utilizzate per l'invecchiamento sono spesso prima utilizzate per l'invecchiamento dello Sherry. Altri provengono dalla zona di Islands e sono molto affumicati e torbati, con note iodate e salmastre. Infine da nominare quelli dello Speyside, più morbidi e dolci.
