Muskaatdruiven vertegenwoordigen een van de grote wijnstoffamilies in het Middellandse-Zeegebied. Het is een van de oudste variëteiten ooit, al gekweekt door de Grieken en geliefd bij de oude Romeinen. De naam lijkt te zijn afgeleid van de term muscus om het aroma van musk te onderstrepen dat het aromatische spectrum van de druiven en hun wijnen kenmerkt. Moscato Bianco, de meest geteelde in Italië, is wijdverbreid in veel regio's: Moscato di Trani, Siracusa, Noto, Chambave, Montalcino, Tempio Pausania, maar zeker het meest bekende gebied voor de teelt van dit variatie is Piemonte, in het bijzonder het Asti-gebied en het Canelli-gebied . In Piemonte is het de meest verbouwde druif met witte bessen, vooral voor de productie van mousserende wijnen met de Charmat-methode . De wijn heeft een strogele kleur, met een karakteristiek boeket van oranjebloesem, citrus, witte perzik en musk . De slok is intens aromatisch, sappig en rijk, met een medium body, eigenschappen die het de ideale combinatie maken voor gezuurde desserts zoals pandoro en panettone .
