Scotch Whisky

Los orígenes de este destilado llevan mucho tiempo en disputa entre Escocia e Irlanda. En Escocia , el whisky se expresa en todas sus formas y cada tipo tiene sus propias peculiaridades. La mayoría de los whiskies escoceses se caracterizan por el dulzor de la malta y el aroma seco de la turba . A este aroma ahumado más o menos intenso se suma el que le aporta el paso en barrica.

Sin embargo, cada zona de producción influye en el carácter del whisky. Hay quienes prefieren los producidos en la isla de Islay , con notas yodadas y saladas, secas y picantes. Los Highland Whisky son más complejos y con mucho cuerpo, envolventes y con un encantador toque ahumado. Todo ello acentuado por el hecho de que las barricas utilizadas para el envejecimiento suelen utilizarse primero para el envejecimiento del Jerez. Otros proceden de la zona de las Islas y son muy ahumados y turbosos, con notas yodadas y saladas. Por último, cabe mencionar los de Speyside , que son más suaves y dulces.
