One of the most prestigious wine-growing regions at national and international level, Tuscany has always been synonymous with very high quality wines and it is no coincidence that it is the homeland of producers such as Marchesi Antinori, Tenuta San Guido, Biondi Santi and many other companies that have made the history of wine in Italy and in the world.
In fact, the famous announcement by Grand Duke Cosimo III de Medici dates back three centuries ago and, in 1716, demarcated the boundaries of the four most suitable production areas (Chianti Classico, Carmignano, Pomino and Valdarno di Sopra), making Tuscany the undisputed homeland of most important and modern designations of origin. Among these, today we find Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, Nobile di Montepulciano and Bolgheri. It is precisely in this area that the famous Sassicaia was born fifty years ago, destined, together with Tignanello and other Tuscan wines, to revolutionize traditional production techniques thanks to the introduction of Bordeaux varieties and the use of barrique. Legendary wines capable of competing with the best French wines, which will therefore earn the epithet of "Supertuscan".
The region owes its fame to the red wines obtained from its main grape variety, Sangiovese , often accompanied by other local varieties such as Canaiolo and Ciliegiolo or by international vines such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Among the red grape varieties that have found an area of choice in Tuscany, we can mention Syrah in the Cortona and Montecarlo area and Pinot Noir in the pre-Apennine areas (Mugello and Casentino).
Moving to the Tyrrhenian coast however, we cannot fail to mention the wines produced in Bolgheri ,   starting from international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon , Cabernet Franc and Merlot , Syrah . The Maremma is instead the homeland of Morellino di Scansano , a famous Tuscan red wine obtained from the Sangiovese grape, locally called Morellino .
Among the white grape varieties that make up the Tuscan wines of the Tyrrhenian Coast, Vermentino stands out, particularly in Bolgheri and in the Candia dei Colli Apuani area, and Ansonica (or Inzolia) widespread mainly in the Maremma , but also in insular Tuscany on the Elba island and Giglio island .
Among the other most cultivated white grape varieties we remember Trebbiano Toscano, Vernaccia di San Gimignano and Chardonnay .
