Tignanello is a wine produced in Tuscany by Marchesi Antinori . It is one of the most famous and appreciated Italian wines in the world and is among those that have contributed most to Italy's wine renaissance internationally. It has been repeatedly included in the top positions of the ranking of the best 100 wines in the world drawn up annually by the American magazine Wine Spectator.

The wine takes its name from the Tignanello vineyard of the homonymous estate, which is located in the Municipality of San Casciano Val di Pesa, in the province of Florence, in the production area of the Chianti Classico between the Greve and Pesa valleys. This is the place chosen by the Antinori family for the testing and production of the highest quality wine. The estate consists of 319 hectares, of which 127 are vineyards. The land, in the hills, is composed of Galestro and Alberese rocks, the exposure of the vineyards, facing south-west, is ideal for the full maturation of the cultivated varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese .

The wines produced here, Solaia and Tignanello, as well as representing the top products of the entire range of the Antinori winery , are universally recognized by the national and international ciritica as two of the most influential wines of the Italian wine scene and are punctually awarded the most important awards in the world of wine.

Produced for the first time in 1970, Tignanello has revolutionized the way of making wine in Chianti and Tuscany, so much so that it is considered one of the precursors of the so-called " Supertuscan ". Initially placed on the market as Chianti Classico Riserva, since 1971 it has detached itself from the denomination, whose specification at the time imposed the blend with white grapes and did not allow the use of international varieties. Since 1982 the composition has remained the same as the current one, or a selection of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, which after aging in barriques for about 12 months, rests in the bottle for a further year of aging. It is produced only in the best years.

The spring of 2016 began in the Chianti Classico in good weather, favoring an early budding, which was followed by cooler temperatures in the months of May and June. The summer, until the end of August, was generally hot, dry and free of heat peaks: optimal conditions for the perfect growth of the grapes. The harvest months were regular, with some rainy events alternating with long periods of sunshine and ventilation, which allowed an ideal ripening process for the three varieties present in the Tignanello vineyard.

In full harmony with the vintage, Tignanello 2016 presents itself at the sight of an intense ruby red, while the nose notes of ripe red fruit combine with pleasant hints of fresh blackberry and berries . Delicate and perfectly integrated aromas of vanilla, bitter chocolate and light spices . On the palate it is vibrant, with silky and refined tannins. Balanced and intense with a long, complex and persistent finish .
