Tenuta Aquilaia is located in Tuscany, in the municipality of Scansano, in the province of Grosseto, in the heart of the Maremma. With 40 hectares of property, 15 of which are cultivated with vines, it gives space both to native varieties, such as vermentino, ciliegiolo and sangiovese, and to international varieties, such as chardonnay, petit verdot, alicante and merlot. The vineyards, facing south-west, lie on rolling hills of Pliocene and Quaternary origin, with clay-loam soils rich in minerals and microelements.

Inspired by the Etruscan winemaking tradition, Tenuta Aquilaia manages the vineyards and winemaking with an eye to environmental sustainability and applying ancient agronomic practices in a modern key. Thus two different production lines were born: Linea Auspici and Linea Orizzonti.

The first consists of wines made only from selected grapes, harvested by hand and left to age in both wood and bottle; with a clear structure, the wines of the Auspici Line express their full potential with time. They include Maremma Toscana DOC Ciliegiolo, Maremma Toscana DOC Chardonnay and Maremma Toscana DOC Fosso Sanguinaio, Tenuta Aquilaia's first Supertuscan. Dedicated to Fosso Sanguinaio, a historic stream that springs from the heights of Poggio Ferro, in the Maremma hinterland, and crosses the heart of the Tenuta before flowing into the Albegna river, it is an intense ruby red, which on the nose reveals a bouquet of cherry, myrtle and spicy notes of black pepper. A decisive wine, with silky tannins and a spicy finish, that well expresses the unique essence of its native territory.

The wines of the Orizzonti Line, on the other hand, are made from indigenous vines, such as Sangiovese and Vermentino; they are easy-drinking wines, rich in bouquet, very pleasing to the palate and full-bodied and harmonious like the Maremma Toscana DOC Vermentino.
