Sauvignon Blanc
Sauvignon Blanc is found today in increasingly typical and identifying expressions. It is an early-ripening semi-aromatic white grape variety from France.
From Sauvignon Blanc are produced the famous Loire Valley wines such as Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, and the sweet Sauternes wines of Bordeaux. It is also widespread in many countries around the world, including New Zealand (especially Marlborough), the United States (California, Washington State), South Africa and Chile. In Italy, it has found its ideal habitat in Alto Adige and Friuli Venezia Giulia (mainly in Collio).
Its aromas range from floral-fruity notes of elderberry, green tea, passion fruit, grapefruit and boxwood to typical notes reminiscent of pepper and tomato leaf. Often, producers tend to harvest this variety early to favour its acidity and typical vegetal aromas, which would otherwise tend to be lost due to the effect of prolonged sunlight. On the palate, it is fresh and endowed with good acidity and flavour, and gives rise to both immediate wines for everyday consumption and wines of great elegance and complexity. All wines that are among the most appreciated and drunk in the world.
