Rocca di Frassinello

Rocca di Frassinello is the Tuscan Maremma estate of Castellare di Castellina, one of the most famous Tuscan wineries in our wine scene. The Rocca di Frassinello project was born from the desire to create a second estate in another territory of Tuscany, which could guarantee the same quality of Castellare in Chianti wines. After numerous researches, the choice fell on the hinterland of the Tuscan Maremma , in the splendid hilly area which is located halfway between Massa Marittima and Grosseto. In this area there have been many similarities in terms of soil composition with the fine soils of the Chianti Classico and Montalcino area, but with average seasonal temperatures of a few degrees higher, which guarantee a full and rich ripening of the grapes , with very interesting aromatic profiles. The estate covers about 500 hectares, of which about 90 are currently planted with vines. The area is kissed by a gentle Mediterranean climate, always mitigated by the constant breezes that go back inland from the Tyrrhenian coast of Castiglion della Pescaia . The Rocca di Frassinello estate project stems from the collaboration between two prestigious names in the wine: Castellare and Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite. The Italian-French union has combined the great experience of two brands, which have chosen the path of absolute excellence by vocation. Next to the typical varieties of the Tuscan land, such as Sangiovese and Vermentino, the estate also hosts the noble Bordeaux vines Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Syrah, the great grape of the Rhone Valley. In addition to the work done in the countryside with the planting of the new vineyards, the estate has been enriched with a cellar designed by the famous architect Renzo Piano. The architectural choices were guided by an essential and functional vision, without deriving monumental exhibitionism, but trying to create places suitable for production needs, without renouncing the symbolic value of the spaces. Thus was born the idea of placing the barrel cellar in the heart of the cellar, as a true center of the structure and an almost sacred and ritual place for wine.

The range of wines is quite wide and among the various labels we highlight some excellences: such as the Maremma Toscana DOC Rocca di Frassinello, a cut of sangiovese (60%), merlot (20%), cabernet sauvignon (20%), vinified in steel and aged in barrique for 14 months. A red that combines the expressive strength and freshness of Sangiovese with the elegance of cabernet and the fruity softness of merlot. Another great wine is the pure merlot Maremma Toscana DOC Baffonero , which thanks to a long aging in barrique, gives harmonious aromas and a persuasive and refined profile. Among the whites we point out a pleasant, fresh and savory version of vermentino, the Toscana IGT Vermentino, ideal to accompany the seafood dishes of traditional Tuscan cuisine.
