We have reached the end of the year, it's time for rankings and awards. Today we elect the European wine region of the year according to Vino.com: Bordeaux .

The Bordeaux wine classification of 1855 named it as the most famous and influential region in the world of wine . This system was commissioned by Emperor Napoleon III on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition in Paris.

The Bordeaux AOC denomination, which includes the entire wine-growing region, brings together fruity and easy-drinking wines, more suitable for daily consumption than for long ageing, while Bordeaux Supérieur , produced in the same area, but with more restrictive requirements, including a minimum aging of 12 months, they are richer and more complex wines than basic Bordeaux.

The Côtes de Bordeaux denomination, however, is different, created in 2009 from the merger of four sub-areas previously known as Premières Côtes de Blaye, Côtes de Castillon, Côtes de Francs and Premières Côtes de Bordeaux. Here, Merlot-based wines are mainly produced, which are halfway between the wines of the left bank and those of the right bank, in terms of quality and style.
