The word Rhum evokes Caribbean landscapes, adventures of pirates and privateers or literary worlds inspired by now mythical figures such as Ernest Hemingway. Rhum is obtained from the fermentation and subsequent distillation of sugar cane or molasses, a by-product of the processing of brown sugar. In fact, sugar cane is a plant of oriental origin, introduced in Central America only after the travels of Christopher Columbus and even today the most famous producers of Rhum are found in the Caribbean countries. The world of Rhum is divided into two large families: the industrial Rhum which is produced by the distillation of molasses and the agricultural Rhum which comes from the juice extracted directly from the sugar cane. Obviously the latter is the most prized, thanks to more elegant and complex aromas, which combine floral and fruity notes with hints deriving from the aging in wood. During the years of aging in the warm Caribbean climate, the Rhum evolve and enrich themselves with aromas of vanilla, caramel, candied peel, dried fruit, cocoa, leather, tobacco and balsamic hints, which make them complex and soft. For those who love white Rhum, here are two interesting labels: the Rhum Blanc Agricole from Neisson and the Rhum Blanc Agricole Karukera . They are produced with the famous Canne Bleu variety and impress with their finesse and expressive purity. Also from Karukera we point out two other excellent labels: Rhum Vieux Agricole and the prestigious Rhum Agricole Réserve Spécial . They are produced on the island of Guadeloupe and are distinguished by dense fruity aromas and elegant spicy nuances. Among the Rhum J. Bally, we point out the Rhum Ambré Agricole , the 7 Year Old Rhum Vieux Agricole and the prestigious 12 Year Old Rhum Vieux Agricole , persuasive and of great aromatic complexity. In the same style, the Trés Vieux Rhum Agricole VSOP Réserve Spéciale de Depaz . An intense, rich Rhum with a pleasantly fresh finish. For those in search of complex, soft and elegant Rhum, here are two proposals by Saint James, the Rhum Vieux Agricole Cuvée 1765 and the Très Vieux Rhum Agricole Millésime 2000 Horse d'Age Cuvée . Finally, we close with a mythical name for Rhum fans: Zacapa . Excellent Ron Zacapa Centenario 23 Años Solera Gran Reserva , produced in Guatemala with the Solera method . A fascinating rum for complexity, elegance and aromatic depth. For pure connoisseurs, here are two other valuable labels, also from Zacapa: Rum XO Solera Gran Reserva Especial and Ron Zacapa Centenario Royal Solera Gran Reserva Especial .
