Roku's creation is based on over 100 years of experience. It was in fact in 1899 that Shinjiro Torii, at the time in his early twenties, opened the Torii Shoten store with the aim of creating spirits produced in Japan with local raw materials that could be appreciated all over the world. Shinjiro managed to fulfill his dream by giving life, together with the future founder of Nikka, to what will become the most famous distillery in Japan: Suntory.

The first gin of the distillery dates back to 1936; since then Suntory's master distillers have continued to work tirelessly, with meticulous attention to detail and unshakable vision for its improvement. Thus was born "Roku", the result of over 80 years of painstaking work. "Roku", which in Japanese means "6" , together with the eight traditional botanicals , incorporates six typically Japanese ones , grown during the cycle of seasons: Sakura cherry blossoms and leaves in spring, Sencha green tea and Gyokuro in summer, pepper Sansho in autumn and Yuzu citrus peel in winter.

The perfect serve involves pouring 5 cl of Roku into a glass filled with ice and tonic water , served with fresh ginger cut into sticks.
