A great woman of wine

Elena Walch is the woman behind and who lends her name to the company, one of the most prominent personalities of the South Tyrolean wine scene. Trained architect, he decided to devote himself to the production of wine following his marriage to Warner Walch, descendant of one of the oldest wine dynasties in South Tyrol. She impressed a modern vision on the cellar, in which quality and nature are able to coexist in perfect harmony and support each other.

Sustainability

Without ever losing sight of the quality that has consecrated the name of Elena Walch on an international level, the company has been expressing a design tension over the years towards an increasingly sustainable and authentic dimension of its products. There is a gradual path of conversion of the vineyard to organic, the use of varieties resistant to diseases such as the Bronner, the reasoned use of natural resources, as well as the adoption of very respectful practices in the cellar, such as gravity vinification and the selection of indigenous yeasts for fermentation. Nature is precious and must be preserved, even for generations to come. At present, the fifth generation of the Walch family is at the helm of the company, with their daughters Julia and Karoline, who intend to carry on this same production philosophy.
The winery believes that only in this way it is possible to highlight the close link with the terroir which aims to express the individual characteristics of each vineyard.

VINEY Ringberg Castle and Kastelaz

Elena Walch has 30 hectares of vineyards, some owned and others for rent, divided into the vineyards Castel Ringberg, Kastelaz and Minori. The wines obtained from the grapes that come from Castel Ringberg and Kastelaz can boast an additional additional mention, VIGNA, which guarantees that the grapes have been harvested only and only in the delimited area of the vineyard registered with the provincial administration and vinified in a separate.

Vigna Castel Ringberg, with an extension of over 20 hectares, represents the main estate of Elena Walch. Developed around a Renaissance castle dating back to the Habsburgs, Vigna Castel Ringberg is distributed on very steep soils of morainic origin, of a limestone, sandy or clayey nature, and is affected by the mitigating influence of Lake Caldaro. These conditions confer unique properties to the cultivated varieties in which the terroir becomes immediately recognizable.

Vigna Kastelaz overlooks the small town of Tramin. It enjoys a privileged position, with terraced vineyards facing south that are at an altitude of 360 meters above sea level. The low yields and a favorable combination of microclimate and limestone soil, give life to wines of great refinement and uniqueness.

Argentum Bonum

The pearls of the Elena Walch house, that is the Gewürztraminer VIGNA Kastelaz and the Grande Cuvée Beyond the Clouds ("Beyond the clouds"), are refined in the now disused silver mine of the Val Ridanna at 200 m high, an unusual but ideal place for the elevation of a wine, protected from light, with a constant temperature of 7 ° C, a humidity of 95% and a lower pressure due to the height. The bottles remain here for a few years and at the end of the aging period they acquire unique characteristics of roundness and complexity, in which the evolution of their aromatic profile is evident.
