Cloudy Bay

Founded in 1985, Cloudy Bay was one of the first wineries to settle in the New Zealand region of Marlborough . Located between the Pacific Ocean and the Richmond Range Mountains, this portion of land offers a truly extraordinary landscape, where making wine at the time might have seemed unimaginable . Nevertheless, the founder of the estate, David Hohnen, was strongly convinced of the potential of the area and invested in the best land. Since then Marlborough has become not only the most famous wine region of New Zealand, but also one of the most suitable in the world for the production of Sauvignon Blanc .

The name of the estate comes from the nearby bay of Cloudy Bay (Te Koko, in the Maori language), so named by the explorer James Cook, who discovered it in 1770. Today Cloudy Bay produces wines that represent the quintessence of Marlborough: a silky Pinot Noir (93 pt James Suckling), a fresh and fragrant Chardonnay, but above all two Sauvignon Blanc . The first (91 pt) is fresh and clean, the result of a single passage in steel; the second (92 pt), "Te Koko", has a great structure and it ages in wood barrels on the fine lees. The Marlborough wines have recently been joined by Pinot Noir "Te Wahi" (93 pt), produced in the Central Otago region, the most suitable for the cultivation of the vine .
