Grand Cru Champagnes are produced from grapes coming exclusively from vineyards belonging to certain municipalities in Champagne, classified since 1911 as "Grand Cru". Today there are 17 Grand Cru municipalities, divided between Côte des Blancs, Vallée de la Marne and the Montagne de Reims, including the famous Avize, Aÿ, Bouzy and Ambonnay.

The most famous Champagne houses own vineyards in these villages : Krug, Dom Perignon, Bollinger, Deutz, Philipponat or Bonville. In the creation of their cuvée de prestige, some Maisons choose to use only grapes from Grand Cru vineyards.
