Today is a date to mark on the calendar. It's Black Friday! The great shopping festival, imported from the USA and now regularly included in our agendas. Black Friday is the last Friday in November and falls right after Thanksgiving. In the United States it is the day that kicks off the Christmas shopping season. From an economic point of view, this is an important indicator for evaluating the propensity to purchase in general terms and for understanding which products will be the protagonists of the Christmas campaign.
As per tradition, the stores of the largest distribution chains and e-commerce sites offer exceptional discounts on Black Friday, valid for one day only. A phenomenon that has generated queues and long night-time waits in front of the shops, to guarantee access during opening hours. To avoid these inconveniences, it is much more convenient to buy online from home, without having to rebel or stand in endless queues in the cold, and without even the certainty of being able to purchase the object of your desires. The origin of the concept of Black Friday is still somewhat uncertain. Many trace the expression to the use in accounting books of red ink to indicate losses and black ink for profits. The Christmas period marked the beginning of black writing and profitable balance sheets for traders. According to another theory, the name comes from the flow of crowds and traffic jams in the streets caused by consumers looking for the best deals and lowest prices. The first experiments with special discount days after Thanksgiving date back to the 1920s, but these were only isolated and sporadic episodes.
It is only in recent decades that Black Friday fever has spread, first in the USA and then around the world, with discounts that can reach up to 50% of the base price. The tradition arrived in Italy a few years ago, but has already established itself as an unmissable event for consumers, especially for the e-commerce market. Black Friday offers are often timed and for a limited number of items, so it is important to carefully follow all promotions and be quick in purchasing. Black Friday does not allow for indecision, hesitation or reflection. Speed is winning. Black Friday is often preceded by a real Black Week. A week of offers and discounts, which anticipates the big shopping day and also serves to promote the most important Black Friday offers.
Black Friday, user manual.
But how do you prepare for Black Friday?
First of all, you need to be very clear about what you want to buy, what type of product and what goods. We must check and monitor the standard price of our favorite items, to immediately have a reference to the real discount on the price that will be offered to us during Black Friday. It is also a good idea to start a few days in advance by checking the announcements and previews on the sites that sell what we would like to buy, to know in advance where to buy without wasting time.
Black Friday and the world of wine
And for wine lovers? Well... Black Friday is an opportunity not to be missed! We are at the end of November and the Christmas holidays are approaching, time for gifts and good dinners. What better time to take advantage of the discounts and buy a prestigious wine label or a bottle of whisky, cognac or rum with a special value as a Christmas gift? And why not take advantage of the discounts to purchase the wines that we have wanted for a long time and that we would like to taste with friends during Christmas lunch or New Year's Eve dinner? Not to mention the possibility of storing the wines we love most in our private cellar, and then finally purchasing them at a lower price.
Wine has the great advantage of being a product that lasts a long time, indeed it improves over time. Black Friday is the perfect opportunity to buy essential labels and long-lasting wines to keep in the cellar. Any examples? The great reds such as Barolo, Barbaresco, Brunello di Montalcino, Amarone della Valpolicella, Sagrantino di Montefalco, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Taurasi, Aglianico del Vulture; or the great whites that do not fear time, but actually improve with aging: Riesling, Timorasso, Lugana, Soave, Collio Bianco, Verdicchio, Fiano, Greco di Tufo, Carricante. Without forgetting the sparkling wines. If you don't drink them all during the holidays, don't worry. The classic method and champagne can only be improved if they remain in the cellar for at least one or two years after disgorgement and with three or four years of refinement in the bottle they develop and acquire a complexity and aromatic richness of great charm. So, everything is ready and we will be hunting for the best deals from mid-November! We look forward to seeing you every year in our digital store to offer you flash offers and exclusive discounts.
