Castello Banfi

Imagine two American brothers, John and Harry Mariani, who, after having inherited one of the most prestigious wine importing companies in the United States, the "Banfi Vintners", founded by his father in New York in 1919, decide to realize the dream of becoming wine producers in one of the most fascinating (and then unspoken) areas of Tuscany, Montalcino. They do this by imagining a revolutionary company, starting from a blank sheet. To animate them a visionary spirit, testified by the words of John, who on the day of the inauguration of the winery claims to want to "create a good for Italy, a good for America and a good for all those who love quality wines" . It is with these assumptions that, in 1978, Banfi was born in Montalcino.

The incessant research activity, the strong pioneering spirit, sustainability, pillars at the base of the company philosophy, have made Banfi a protagonist of the history of Montalcino. It is mainly thanks to the contribution of this winery that Brunello has gradually become a symbol and icon of Montalcino and Italian wine, first in America and then all over the world. Today, at the head of Banfi, in giving continuity to the family presence in the company, there is the third generation led by Cristina Mariani.

The Banfi wines, which tell the passage of time in the wooden vats, are produced with grapes selected and harvested exclusively from the estate's specialized vineyards. Distinguished by a soul strongly linked to the territory and its sustainability, they have always been acclaimed by national and international critics: from Brunello di Montalcino "Poggio alle Mura" 2014 (93 pt. James Suckling), to Brunello 2014 (92 pt.) , or to Tuscany "Belnero", one of the winery's most successful labels.
