Marchesi Mazzei, Italy
The history of the Mazzei family has been closely linked to the Tuscan winemaking tradition since the 11th century. With Ser Lapo Mazzei the "Chianti" appellation was born in 1398 and a few centuries later, with Filippo Mazzei the tradition of Tuscan winemaking was exported to Virginia. In fact, in 1778 the Il Colle estate was born, in Virginia, which would become the first "Wine Company" in America. The project originates from the revolutionary idea of Filippo Mazzei, who thanks to his influence obtained permission from the Grand Duke of Tuscany to export the cuttings of Tuscan vineyards to America and was helped by Thomas Jefferson himself to buy the first land near his estate . The history of the Mazzei family continues today, after 24 generations, starting from Castello di Fonterutoli, in the heart of the Chianti Classico. Here, on the hills of the municipalities of Castellina in Chianti, Radda in Chianti and Castelnuovo Berardenga, the Marchesi Mazzei company owns 73 vineyards mainly planted with Sangiovese , but also with Merlot , Malvasia Nera, Colorino and Cabernet Sauvignon . With the Belguardo estate, located in the Tuscan Maremma, the Mazzei family has further expanded its production, introducing international vines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Syrah. Finally, in Sicily it specialized in the cultivation of Nero d'Avola grapes on its Zisola estate, near Noto. Thanks to this variety of vines and the quality of the wines produced by the company, the name Marchesi Mazzei is now known and appreciated all over the world.
Marchesi Mazzei red wine
The Marchesi Mazzei company produces a great variety of red wines, starting from the three very famous Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG from its Fonterutoli estate: Vicoregio 36, Castello di Fonterutoli and Badiòla, which are born respectively in the terroirs of Castelnuovo Berardenga, Castellina in Chianti and Radda in Chianti. These are three reds that come from 100% Sangiovese grapes and which, in the various years, have obtained prizes and awards from both Italian and international critics. In addition to the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG, the Fonterutoli estate produces various Toscana IGT red wines, such as the Philip Toscana IGT Marchesi Mazzei, dedicated to Filippo Mazzei, who was the first to bring Tuscan wine culture to the "New World". It is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, grown and selected in the land owned by the company, from which a typically Tuscan, noble and complex wine originates. Three other reds come from the Belguardo estate, which fully express the Tuscan wine culture: the Belguardo Tirrenico Maremma Toscana DOC Marchesi Mazzei, the Belguardo Maremma Toscana IGT Marchesi Mazzei and the Belguardo Bronzone Morellino di Scansano Riserva DOCG Marchesi Mazzei. Complex and structured wines, but also elegant and aromatic, which are born on rocky soils of sandstone and alberese, exposed to the mild climate of the Tyrrhenian coast. Finally, in the Zisola estate in the Sicilian town of Noto, Nero D'Avola grapes are mainly grown, from which the Zisola Sicilia Noto Rosso DOC Marchesi Mazzei is born, a fresh and full-bodied red, and the Zisola Doppiozeta Noto DOC Marchesi Mazzei, a wine naturally fermented and unfiltered. The Achilles Syrah Sicilia DOC Marchesi Mazzei and the Effe Emme Terre Siciliane IGT Marchesi Mazzei also originate from the same estate, respectively from 100% Syrah and Petit Verdot grapes. A wide selection of the best Marchesi Mazzei reds is available on Vino.com.
Marchesi Mazzei white wine

Tenuta Belguardo Vermentino Code V Toscana IGT Marchesi Mazzei is born in the Belguardo estate, a well-structured Vermentino that also accompanies typical red wine dishes, such as tasty white meats or porcini mushrooms. The Tenuta Belguardo Vermentino di Toscana IGT Marchesi Mazzei also originates from the same estate, a fresh white with great character, available together with the other Vermentino on Vino.com. In the Sicilian Zisola estate, the company produces the Azisa Sicilia DOC Marchesi Mazzei, from Catarratto and Grillo grapes.
