Ca' dei Frati
The Cà dei Frati winery is located in Lugana di Sirmione, on the southern shore of Lake Garda. In 1969, the winery actively participated in the birth of the Lugana DOC, starting to bottle its first label.
Today, after many years of history and tradition, Cà dei Frati treasures its great past and looks confidently to the future, following a path made of research, innovation and enhancement of the great heritage built over time. The Lugana wines of Cà dei Frati have contributed to making this intense and complex white wine and the wine-growing vocation of the area known throughout the world.
What does Cà dei Frati mean?
Cà dei Frati owes its name to the news reported since the eighteenth century concerning a "house of the friars", or a "house with cellar located in Lugana in the Sermione area called the place of the Fratti". The high winemaking vocation of the area, with its calcareous and clayey soils, is revealed in the production of full-bodied white wines, with a characteristic scent of yellow apples.
Where is the Cà dei Frati wine produced?
Cà dei Frati is one of the historic Lugana companies, which stands out in the panorama of the denomination because it has always aimed to enhance the grapes of the area. The grapes of each vineyard are vinified separately, to enhance the expressions of the "terroir".
Respect for the raw material is the basis of intact and long-lived wines, projected over time, synonymous with a unique style that has been influenced by the friendship with one of the pillars of wine, Luigi Veronelli , a friend of the Dal Cero family.
What are the best Luganas?
Cà dei Frati produces some of the best Lugana of the appellation. Trebbiano di Lugana is the basis of most of the wines of Cà dei Frati and gives life to both a still white wine and a sparkling wine.
The Cà dei Frati Brolettino , thanks to the aging for 10 months in barrique and 8 months in bottle, is a complex and evolved Lugana, which adapts to many combinations. We recommend trying it with legume and cabbage soups and pasta with white sauces, but also with white meats and poultry cooked with complex sauces and with medium-aged cheeses accompanied by mustards and honey. Priceless then, the combination with shellfish, whether boiled or grilled.
The wine obtained from Trebbiano di Lugana is perfect as a base for a cuvée sparkling with the classic method, the Cuvée dei Frati Brut . The company also produces the excellent Rosé Cuvée from a blend of Groppello , Marzemino, Sangiovese and Barbera, a classic method which ages for at least 24 months on the lees and rests for 4 months in the bottle after disgorgement. Finally, the range includes some red wines with character such as Ronchedone and the timeless Cà dei Frati Amarone Pietro dal Cero .
Also interesting is the blend of Trebbiano di Lugana with Sauvignon and Chardonnay with late harvest. The overripe grapes are the basis of the admirable and very sweet Tre Filer, while in the interesting Pratto they allow to enhance the aromaticity of the Sauvignon, the softness of the Chardonnay and the minerality of the Turbiana, giving life to a rich and opulent wine, perfect in combination with dishes enriched with herbs and spices, with refined cheeses accompanied by fruit mustard and with blue cheeses.
