Yamazakura
Founded in 1765 as a company specializing in the production of traditional Japanese beverages such as sake and shochu, the Sasanokawa Shuzo distillery, based in Fukushima, in the city of Kōriyama, was converted almost 200 years later to the production of refined whiskeys. The distillery has managed to make its way into the Japanese market elbowing between now established names of the stature of Nikka or Suntory. The tradition of Japanese whiskey takes on an increasingly important dimension also by virtue of the singular similarity of the whiskeys produced here with those of the Scottish island of Islay, due to very similar climatic conditions and the recovery of the ancient Scottish methods now abandoned.
