Vie di Romans
Vie di Romans is an important reality of Friulian wine, which is based in the area of Mariano del Friuli, north of Gradisca d'Isonzo. This family-run winery has over a century of history behind it and experienced an important turning point at the end of the 1970s, when Gianfranco Gallo took over the reins of the company and made innovative choices, carefully studying the characteristics of the soils and pursuing uncompromising quality. A journey made up of small stages that has allowed Vie di Romans to establish itself in the panorama of Friulian wine, thanks to a rigorous style that is faithful to the territory. Vie di Romans was one of the first companies to introduce parcel vinification of grapes for individual crus and to market white wines only two years after the harvest.
Wines Vie di Romans
Vie di Romans wines are born on the banks of the Isonzo, in an area with a microclimate particularly favorable to viticulture. Here the grapes ripen in a perfect and healthy way thanks to the fresh winds coming from the north-east, the considerable temperature variations, and the breezes of the nearby Adriatic Sea that make the climate mild. The soils are quite heterogeneous, and Vie di Romans has studied them to be able to plant each vine in the most suitable place, enhancing the individual crus. Precisely with this in mind, the labels were born which, in addition to the name of the vine, also indicate the place of origin of the grapes, referring to the cadastral toponymy or to the most ancient oral traditions. Vie di Romans has also made important changes regarding the yield of the vineyards, applying rigorous pruning to obtain low yields and high quality of the grapes which result in a high quality of the wine.
Vie di Romans white wine
Vie di Romans is famous above all for its white wine, with productions starting from native vines or more suited to the territory such as Malvasia Istriana , Friulano, Sauvignon Blanc , Chardonnay , Pinot Grigio and Riesling . Among the red wines are cultivated Merlot , present in Friuli since the nineteenth century and Pinot Noir , which is proving to adapt well to the Soča lands. This company tries to obtain wines that are as natural as possible, which is why some wines from Vie di Romans may have sediments of calcium tartrate salts, which originate from the natural contents of the wine. Although there are oenological practices capable of avoiding this precipitation, the company prefers not to make use of exogenous substances of a colloidal nature capable of opposing the formation of salt in order not to alter the expressiveness of the vine by modifying the integrity of the product. These crystals collect easily at the bottom of the bottle and are not poured into the glass if the wine is poured carefully.
