Travaglino
Travaglino is the oldest sparkling wine reality in the Oltrepò Pavese, whose name seems to be inspired by Johannis de Travalino, witness of a concession deed of the castle of Cavaglino and the surrounding lands dating back to the early Middle Ages, in 1111. In 1868, the knight Vincenzo Comi acquires the Villa di Travaglino, the first nucleus of the estate, transformed by his nephew into a wine cellar. Subsequently, the first zoning studies were carried out and the production systems updated. Today the fifth generation of the Comi family, Cristina and Alessandro Cerri Comi, devotes all their efforts to the main grape varieties, Pinot Nero in various declinations and Riesling Renano. In Calvignano, on the slopes of Monte Cérésino, in the central western part of the Oltrepò Pavese, the clayey-limestone soils that rest on marl and sandstone rich in microelements and a microclimate marked by a good temperature range between day and night, represent a ideal habitat for these varieties, which in this area develop healthy, crunchy grapes with excellent acidity, allowing the creation of unique expressions. Wines that are alive, authoritative, recognizable, always territorial, elegant, never banal, which enhance finesse and pleasantness and which tell the story of their origins.
