Tenute Orestiadi
Tenute Orestiadi is one of the most important productive realities in western Sicily. It is a young winery, founded in 2008 in Gibellina, which collects and vinifies the grapes of many small contributors from the Belìce Valley. Tenute Orestiadi was born with the aim, not only of producing wines with a typically territorial face, but also of enhancing the cultural and artistic aspects linked to the history of Gibellina and the Mediterranean. A wide-ranging and multidisciplinary project, which has the merit of giving wine back the ability to trace cultural routes, capable of sharing experiences and uniting peoples that belong to the Mare Nostrum. The Gibellina area has always been suitable for viticulture, the Mediterranean climate, sunny and always breezy, characterized by good temperature variations, allows the grapes to arrive at the time of harvest perfectly ripe and with rich and intense aromas. The territory of the Belìce Valley is made up of soils of very heterogeneous composition and hilly reliefs that allow the cultivation of vines at various altitudes and with different exposures. A small mosaic of pedoclimatic conditions, which allows the cultivation of numerous varieties. A careful study of the most ancient local customs, combined with zoning work, allows Tenute Orestiadi to cultivate each grape variety in the most suitable place for microclimate and soils, so that it can always express itself at high quality levels.
The Company's attention has always been focused on enhancing the grapes historically grown in this area of Sicily, in particular: catarratto, grillo, zibibbo, grecanico, perricone, nero d'Avola and frappato. In addition to Sicilian native vines, some famous French varieties are found in the vineyards, such as chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon and syrah. The vines are cultivated on three types of soils: red earth, black earth and white earth, which often cross and merge. The red soils consist mainly of sand and stones. They are loose and draining soils, very rich in ferrous elements and particularly suitable for the needs of the perricone. The area of the Trapani hinterland is characterized by the presence of black soils, rich in silt and clays, which make them capable of retaining water in depth and withstanding long periods of drought. On these soils the red berried grapes express themselves particularly well, in particular the Nero d'Avola and the Syrah. The hills of the Belìce Valley are made up of white limestone and chalky soils, perfect for the cultivation of the white grapes grillo, zibibbo, inzolia, catarratto and grecanico. In 2018, Tenute Orestiadi began a collaboration with La Gelsomina, a winery located on the slopes of Etna. The wines of the volcano represent a new challenge in a territory with great potential, characterized by lava soils on which carricante, catarratto, nerello mascalese, nerello cappo and moscato are grown. Inside the cellar, there is the Barrique Museum, which houses works by students of the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. The commitment of Tenute Orestiadi in the artistic field finds full expression in the Museum of Mediterranean Plots of Gibellina, which exhibits works by famous national and international artists.
