Tenuta di Artimino
The Tenuta di Artimino is an ancient Tuscan reality with very ancient roots, which sink into the noble tradition of the wines of the Carmignano and Artimino area, famous since the seventeenth century and even mentioned in an edict of Cosimo III de 'Medici. The estate was purchased in the 1980s by the Olmo family, who still manage it today with great passion and respect for local customs. The property covers a total of 700 hectares, of which 70 are vineyards, which are located around the ancient Villa Medicea, Unesco Heritage, in a splendid rural landscape. The vineyards are conducted in perfect harmony with an uncontaminated environmental context, rigorously applying the principles of responsible and sustainable agriculture. It is an area of Tuscany with a particular character, which expresses wines with a unique and inimitable personality. In addition to Sangiovese, which has always been present in these lands, Cabernet (Franc and Sauvignon) is grown, which seems to have been introduced by Caterina del Medici in the 16th century, long before it became famous in the Bolgheri area. To these two great vines, Merlot, the noble Bordeaux grape capable of giving wines with soft and elegant fruit, and Syrah, the queen variety of the Rhône Valley were also added. At the basis of the rebirth of the Artimino Estate is the tenacity of a great man like Giuseppe Olmo, cyclist and then successful entrepreneur, who was fascinated by the beauty of these places. The estate is divided into two areas, on one side there are the gentle hills of Carmignano and on the other the precious Chianti area of Montalbano, separated by the course of the Arno river, which helps to create a temperate microclimate, ideal for viticulture. The soils are composed of sandstone and clays, with the presence of limestone veins and sands, which insist on a rocky substrate, formed by Serena stone from the Tuscan boulder. The vineyards are located at an altitude between 200 and 400 meters above sea level, divided into different plots that enjoy excellent sunny exposures. It is an ideal terroir for a high quality viticulture, based on low yields and grapes with intense and concentrated aromas. The wines are the pure expression of the best traditions of the area and faithfully reflect the fortunate combination of native and international grapes, the result of a long history and traditions that have remained unchanged.
