Tasca d'Almerita
For almost two centuries Tasca d'Almerita, one of the oldest family-run wineries in Italy, has been based in the Regaleali estate , in the rural heart of Sicily. It was here that in 1959 Count Giuseppe Tasca d'Almerita planted San Lucio, Perricone and Nero d'Avola on the hill, investing in a future that few Sicilians could imagine at that time. He thus created the foundations for the first wine from a single vineyard in Sicily: Rosso del Conte , worthy of competing with the best European and New World vintages. His son Lucio continued the company's pursuit of excellence, planting the first international vines in Sicily and modernizing the Tasca d'Almerita winemaking systems.
Today, Lucio's son, Alberto Tasca lovingly carries forward his father and grandfather's dedication to quality and passion for innovation and research. It has expanded and enriched this legacy with a focus on sustainability. Starting from 2001, with a precise project to enhance the suitable territories, he led the expansion of the company in Sicily: in fact, over time, Tenuta Capofaro was added to Tenuta Regaleali with vineyards on the island of Salina and the the island of Vulcano, in the archipelago of the Aeolian Islands; Tenuta Tascante on Etna, Tenuta Whitaker on the museum island of Mozia and Tenuta Sallier de La Tour in the Monreale DOC a few kilometers from Palermo.
Tasca d'Almerita was one of the founders of the SOStain Foundation , the first sustainability program in Italy in the wine sector. Recognized by the Ministry of Ecological Transition, the SOStain Sicilia Foundation requires the commitment of its partners to the implementation of sustainable policies and compliance with a series of environmental criteria that go well beyond the usual organic certification requirements.
A constant commitment that has led Tasca d'Almerita to receive the award as "Best Winery of the Year" from the authoritative Wine Enthusiast magazine and the prestigious Green Emblem from Robert Parker Wine Advocate. In 2023 Tasca d'Almerita became a certified BCorp , joining an international network of organizations that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, responsibility and transparency.
