Schloss Johannisberg
Schloss Johannisberg is a German abbey located in the hilly region of Rheingau, a German area known for the production of excellent wines. For about 300 years, the only vine that has been produced in Schloss Johannisberg has been Riesling, which, thanks to the suitable soil and the particularly favorable climate, gives the wine great character and balance. More than 1,200 years are associated with Johannisberg's wine history, a rich history of events, which led to the birth of the first Riesling winery in the world.
Born as a Benedictine monastery, Schloss Johannisberg quickly became a reference area for wine production throughout the Rheingau. In 1822 the first vintage with label was created and in 1971 Johannisberg became an independent appellation requiring no additional geographical indication.
