Then, in 1830, a love story laid the foundations for one of the most famous activities in the world in the production of artisanal rum: the meeting between a young German merchant, Gustav Julius Vollmer and Panchita Rivas, an Argentine revolutionary. The descendants of the two young lovers still manage the Hacienda Santa Teresa today, with the same artisanal method, respecting the traditions.

Where does Santa Teresa Rum come from?
For centuries Santa Teresa Rum has been produced in Venezuela, in the country's oldest hacienda in the heart of the picturesque and fertile valley in El Consejo, about an hour east of Caracas. The hacienda was founded in 1796 and is located 80 km from Caracas. Founded in 1885, it is still family-run, led by the Vollmer family, now in its fifth generation. This is a special place not only because it is produced one of the Rum most famous and loved in the world, but mainly because it has survived wars, plagues and economic depression. The Vollmer family is very clear about its educational and civilizing role in this place, and adds value to its business by updating production technology and engaging in highly socially useful projects in support of the weaker sections of the population, such as the Alcatraz project. These initiatives contribute to the international success of an intense, refined and elegant rum.
