Produttori del Barbaresco
The Produttori del Barbaresco winery, founded in 1958, is today considered one of the most famous in the Langhe area, as well as a reference model for cooperatives all over the world. The history of Barbaresco is even older: it was born in 1894, when Domizio Cavazza, the then dean of the Royal Oenological School of Alba, brought together a small group of landowners and farmers and founded the Cantine Sociali di Barbaresco, to give new life to the Nebbiolo , a vine until then cultivated exclusively to produce Barolo wine and table wines. Despite having given a new identity to the territory, the Social Cellars closed in the 1920s, both as a consequence of the First World War and because of the phylloxera that had devastated the vineyards. The tradition of the social cooperative was then taken up by Don Fiorino Marengo, who in 1958 founded the association of Barbaresco Producers, to help small farmers. From an initial adhesion of 19 winemakers, Produttori del Barbaresco has been expanding: today it has 50 associates who cultivate about 110 hectares of vineyards, often located in the historical crus of the appellation, within the municipalities of Barbaresco, Neive, Treiso and San Rocco . Here, at an altitude between 200 and 400 meters above sea level, the Nebbiolo grapes are grown from which the Barbaresco DOCG wines, 9 types of Barbaresco Riserva DOCG and the Nebbiolo Langhe DOC originate.
Red wine Producers of Barbaresco
The red wine Producers of Barbaresco originates in the Langhe, a few kilometers from the city of Alba, an area that has been dedicated to the cultivation of Nebbiolo grapes since the 14th century. On these slopes, in fact, there are clayey soils rich in limestone, which based on the quantity of calcium and some veins of sand, give the wines their peculiar characteristics. Nebbiolo is planted in the areas with the best exposure to the sun and the mild climate in the low seasons guarantees its excellent quality. On these lands the Barbaresco Producers cooperative cultivates Nebbiolo, producing a Barbaresco DOCG and a Nebbiolo Langhe DOC each year, both of which are available on Vino.com. Barbaresco DOCG is produced with pure Nebbiolo grapes grown in the various vineyards of the area of origin. It presents itself to the eye with an intense ruby red color, while in the mouth it is well structured, with a strong tannic texture. The Nebbiolo Langhe DOC is obtained instead with Nebbiolo grapes from the younger vineyards and is a medium-bodied and fresh wine, excellent in combination with meat dishes, both red and white. Furthermore, since 1967, 9 Barbarescos have been produced in the great vintages and then marketed as Barbaresco Riserva DOCG, coming from historic vineyards such as Asili, Rabajà, Rio Sordo, Ovello, Montestefano, Pajé, Muncagota, Montefico and Pora. Since 2007, these wines have been recognized as "Additional Geographical Mentions" and carry the name of the Cru and of the owners of the vineyards on the numbered labels. Finally, there is also Grappa di Barbaresco Aged, obtained from the Nebbiolo pomace that arrives at the distillery, still moist and full of aroma, after a light pressing. The distillation takes place over a few hours and the resulting grappa is left to age for 12 months in oak barrels.
