Poggio al Tesoro
Poggio al Tesoro is the Bolgheri estate of the Allegrini family, one of the most important names in Valpolicella. The project is the realization of the desire to confront another land of great red wines, a sort of new adventure to put oneself to the test again. Everything was born from an intuition of Walter Allegrini, who has always been a lover of the Bolgheri area and its wines. The estate is made up of several farms, each with different pedoclimatic characteristics. The 70 hectares of the estate are located in a natural context of extraordinary beauty, kissed by a hot and powerful sun, which reflected from the sea, gives an atmosphere of dazzling brightness. The hilly line of Castagneto Carducci shelters the Bolgheri area from the winds coming from the east and the gentle breezes of the Tyrrhenian Sea, mitigate the heat of a typically Mediterranean climate. The vines are grown in an area of great biodiversity, among spontaneous shrubs of the Mediterranean scrub and maritime pines. The property consists of four farms, two are located near the famous via Bolgherese, one in Sondraie, near the coast, and the last in the splendid Bibbona area.
The Bolgheri area has a particular orography, which slopes gently from the line of hills that run inland parallel to the coast. The composition of the soils is quite varied, with an internal area richer in skeleton, an intermediate area of medium texture and a sandier strip near the sea: soils not very suitable for Sangiovese and historically considered unsuitable for viticulture. The fortune of the territory began with the success of Sassicaia wine, which gave value to the whole territory. Within a few decades, Bolgheri was reborn with its own precise identity. The lands and the climate have, in fact, proved to be ideal for cultivating the famous Bordeaux red grape varieties, in particular cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot and petit verdot, which in Bolgheri are expressed with an extraordinary maturity of fruit and aromatic richness. Among the white berried grapes, Vermentino is grown above all, but there is no shortage of the most famous French vines, in particular Sauvignon and Chardonnay. Poggio al Tesoro soon established itself as one of the most important realities in the area, thanks to its ability to interpret the spirit of Bolgheri in the name of elegance and refinement. The solid experience gained in Valpolicella, in the cultivation and vinification of red berried grapes, has allowed Allegrini to quickly understand the characteristics of the territory and the personality of the vines. Today the Bolgheri wines produced by Allegrini are among the most interesting and representative labels of the area and are positioned in the high end of the market, as authentic interpreters of this splendid land.
