Poderi Luigi Einaudi
The Poderi Luigi Einaudi, with their important name and a history of over a century, represent one of the most important wineries in Piedmont. The company was founded in 1897, when the young Luigi Einaudi bought the first farm in San Giacomo a Dogliani, with the aim of increasing the reputation of the Langhe area. Soon the cellar also arrives, aimed at the production and bottling of wine and the first vineyards, cultivated by sharecroppers and their families. Einaudi's investment in this business is not limited only to the purchase of land, but also includes the use of cutting-edge machinery, such as tractors, motor mowers and trailers, to facilitate and speed up the work. Even during the years as governor of the Bank of Italy, as Minister and President of the Republic, Luigi Einaudi continues to take care of his own farms and participates in the grape harvests. This tradition has been handed down from generation to generation until today: the first to continue the activity of the historic founder of the Poderi is his son Roberto, who supports the management of the family business alongside his career in the steel industry. Today, the company is headed by Matteo Sardagna, Roberto's nephew, who runs a model farm with 150 hectares of land, 60 of which are planted with vineyards. Here some DOC and DOCG wines of international fame are produced: the Alba DOC, which come from Nebbiolo and Barbera grapes, the Alta Langa DOCG, from the Pinot Nero and Chardonnay vines, the Dogliani DOCG from Dolcetto grapes in purity, the Langhe DOC and Piedmont DOC.
The Poderi Luigi Einaudi Red Wine
The red wines of Poderi Luigi Einaudi are born in an area that starts from the municipality of Dogliani and includes the areas of Barolo, Monforte d'Alba, Alba and Neive. The first red to be successful even outside its homeland was Dolcetto , produced on the hills of the municipality of Dogliani, the heart of the company. After Dolcetto, Nebbiolo and Barolo arrived, grown in the areas of Dogliani, Neive, Monforte d'Alba and Barolo. There is no shortage of Barbera and Merlot vines, also grown on the hills of Dogliani. These are wines with great character and intense flavor, to be combined with complex first courses or meat-based dishes, but also with traditional cold cuts and cheeses.
What are the characteristics of the Dolcetto di Dogliani Luigi Einaudi?
The Dolcetto Dogliani DOCG Poderi Luigi Einaudi was born in the San Luigi, San Giacomo and Madonna delle Grazie vineyards. It is made from 100% Dolcetto grapes, hand-picked and carefully selected. Following the fermentation in steel at a controlled temperature, the maturation and refinement process takes place. The result is a wine with a ruby red color, a fresh flavor of red fruits and an almond aftertaste. The Dolcetto produced by Poderi Luigi Einaudi is an iconic wine of the Doglianese area, which since the 2011 harvest has gone from DOC to DOCG. Due to its importance, the company produces around 150,000 bottles a year and you can also find it on Vino.com!
What goes with Luigi Einaudi Barbera?
Piemonte Barbera DOC Poderi Luigi Einaudi is a red with a good structure and an intense aroma, produced from Barbera grapes from the San Luigi and San Giacomo in Dogliani vineyards. A wine of great character, with velvety tannins, which goes well with complex first courses such as lasagna or baked pasta. Being a wine born in the Piedmont DOC, Barbera Poderi Einaudi goes perfectly with typical dishes of the local cuisine, such as bagna cauda and traditional cheeses, such as Piedmontese Toma and Raschera DOP. A wine definitely worth trying, available on Vino.com.
What characterizes the Barolo Poderi Luigi Einaudi?
Poderi Luigi Einaudi produce different varieties of Barolo in the Verduno, Monforte d'Alba and Barolo vineyards. All the Barolo wines of Poderi Luigi Einaudi stand out for their elegance and bright garnet red color. Moreover, thanks to their tannins, they are long-lasting wines, about 20-25 years in the best vintages. Based on the specific production area, we can taste a full-bodied wine, with a full and velvety texture, such as the Barolo DOCG Ludo, which is born on the hills of Bussia, Terlo and Cannubi. In the Barolo DOCG Bussia, on the other hand, the mineral component of the terroir of origin is perceived. A wine that is also well structured and enveloping, which opens on the nose with spicy and balsamic notes, perfectly blended with the scent of red fruits. From the Cannubi vineyard we then obtain the Barolo DOCG Cannubi, a wine with a lively scent of red fruits, which in the mouth is full and rich in spicy notes. Finally, the Barolo DOCG Terlo Vigna Costa Grimaldi is a wine with a full and austere flavor, a red that acquires greater complexity over the years, while the fruity flavors evolve into aromas of spices, leather and truffles. Barolo DOCG Ludo and Barolo DOCG Cannubi are available on Vino.com!
