Petrolo
Petrolo, a prestigious wine-growing area since 1716, has been home to the Bazzocchi family estate for four generations, which honors the tradition of quality wines. A tradition that began even before the eighteenth century: the Etruscans made wine in these areas as early as the fourth century BC In Roman times, the area of Arezzo and its surroundings was considered the best for wine production and in the Middle Ages the value of the wines of this area was recognized. also within the Florentine Cadastre. After being included in the edict of Cosimo III de 'Medici as an area of wine-making, the fame of Petrolo and of the whole Valdarno di Sopra area has been growing, thanks to its wines, obtained from the Sangiovese grape, now known to the insiders. More recently, in 2011, the "Val d'Arno di Sopra" became a Denomination of Controlled Origin, the first DOC in Italy that includes organic certification among the requisites. The Bazzocchi family had been cultivating their own olive groves since the 1990s according to the principles of organic farming and in 2000 decided to adopt the same standards for the cultivation of vineyards. With the grassing and the abolition of synthetic pesticides and artificial fertilizers, the Petrolo company has definitively abandoned traditional agriculture and in 2015 obtained organic farming certification. With 31 hectares of vineyards planted with Sangiovese, Merlot , Cabernet Sauvignon and Trebbiano grapes, the Petrolo company stands out for its labels synonymous with quality.

What are the characteristics of Petrolo Galatrona?
Petrolo's Galatrona Valdarno di Sopra DOC is a red wine of great structure and elegance, considered the “Grand-Cru” of Merlot of the company. It originates from the vineyard of the same name, planted between the 80s and 90s south-east of the Chianti Mountains, at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level. It is the clay and stone soil of this area that guarantees the wine its strong structure, while the collection and careful selection of the grapes ensure its quality. Following the natural vinification in concrete tanks and maceration, the spontaneous malolactic fermentation and aging in French oak barrels take place. The result is a dark ruby red with a pleasant scent of blueberries and blackberries, accompanied by hints of flowers and spices. Petrolo's Galatrona Valdarno di Sopra DOC has received numerous awards and recognitions, including the Tre Bicchieri by Gambero Rosso and the Cinque Grappoli from the Italian Sommelier Foundation. In what part of Tuscany is Petrolo located?
Petrolo is located in Val d'Arno di Sopra, one of the 4 wine-growing areas identified by Cosimo III Grand Duke of Tuscany in 1716. With this announcement, the Grand Duke intended to protect the wine products from those areas from possible counterfeits, precisely because they were all wines of excellent quality and already well known to connoisseurs. The production of fine wines continued for the following centuries, leading the Valdarno di Sopra area to become a DOC on 13 June 2011. The Denomination also applies to the Petrolo area and to the vineyards of the Bazzocchi family. they extend for 31 hectares on soils stratified with rocks of marl, sandstone and Chianti alberese. Thanks to the particular characteristics of the soil, to its altitude, which varies from 250 to 450 meters above sea level, to the brightness and above all to the skill of the winemakers, wines of character are obtained, the maximum expression of the territory.
