Nardini
The Nardini Distillery has a bicentennial history, boasts the title of the first distillery in Italy. In 1739, Bortolo Nardini was born in Segonzano, in the Val di Cembra. At that time, the distillation of the pomace took place "door to door", the distiller with his still went from house to house to distil the pomace of the farmers. Bortolo Nardini undertook the profession of distiller and thanks to his continuous movements between the villages of the Veneto he reached Bassano del Grappa. An accident forced him to stay in the village for a long time, his keen analysis of the place and enterprising spirit prompted him to stay even after his convalescence. Bassano's position was strategic from a commercial point of view, so Bortolo decided to buy the Osteria al Ponte and start distilling Grappa there. The Osteria became the Grapperia Nardini and that of the distiller ceased to be an itinerant profession. At the end of the harvest, the farmers went to the Grapperia, sold the pomace and Bortolo took care of distilling them and producing the Grappa. Thus was born the first Grappa of Italy, called by Bortolo "Marc brandy". In 1860, the traditional alembic was replaced with the steam alembic, an innovation that led to a qualitative improvement of Grappa Nardini. 1900 was a fundamental century for the Distillery: Grappa Nardini Riserva was born, aged in oak barrels; the “double rectification” was introduced, a methodology that guaranteed a purer Grappa; and finally “vacuum steam distillation” was adopted, an important innovation that allowed the organoleptic properties of the marc to be kept intact. Over the decades, the Nardini Distillery has grown more and more, so much so that in the 2000s the "Grappa in blending" project was launched, a partnership with the most important bartenders in the world, aimed at using Grappa as an ingredient for cocktails. . In 2019, to celebrate the 240 years of the Nardini Distillery, Grappa Single Cask was born, a 22 Year Reserve Grappa that is aged in a single barrel for 22 years and then bottled. Even today Nardini is a family-run business, the seventh generation leads the Distillery and the Grapperia sul Ponte is still the historic seat of the oldest distillery in Italy.
Grappa Nardini
Grappa Nardini is produced in Bassano del Grappa. The Grapperia sul Ponte is the historic site, while the distillery is located just outside the city. Grappa Nardini Bianca is produced with three distillation methods: in boilers, bain-marie and with the continuous method and is obtained from the pomace of destemmed plurivitigno grapes. It is clear, aromatic and immediate, rich in hints of fruit and flowers and thanks to its intense and round taste it is perfect both smooth and as a base for cocktails. The other great workhorse of the Nardini Distillery is the Grappa Riserva 3 Years. It is obtained from de-stemmed multi-variety grape pomace and aged in Slavonian oak barrels. Prolonged contact with wood gives it a bright amber color and enriches and intensifies its aroma. The aromas are enveloping and on the palate it is particularly soft and harmonious.
