Montemajor
In the heart of Puglia , on the gentle hills of Monte Maggiore, Montemajor wines are born, a portrait of the south and of the civilizations that have crossed it over the course of history. Puglia, due to its position and favorable climate, has always been a meeting place between peoples of the West and the East: just think of the "Byzantine colonization" of the South which took place between 871 and 1071 AD, which started the spread of the Greek language and culture not only in Puglia, but also in Sicily and Calabria . Even today in these regions numerous traces of the Near East can be found: from monuments to the language, as evidenced by the current use of the neo-Greek dialect known as "griko" in the countries of "Salento Greece", in the province of Lecce. Montemajor is part of this journey through time with a wide range of wines representative of the whole South: from Primitivo di Manduria DOC , to Terre Siciliane IGT , to Basilicata IGT and Greco di Tufo DOCG . Each has its own story to tell, starting with the label: Mammasanta, Danza delle Spade, Torre del Serpente are just some of the characteristic names chosen by the winery, whose meaning is rooted in the culture of these lands.
Montemajor Red Wine
Montemajor red wine contains the soul of the whole south: from Puglia, Sicily, up to Basilicata, Calabria and Campania. The winery, in fact, produces the most representative wines of these areas, starting from Italian vines, such as Primitivo or Aglianico , but also international ones, such as Syrah . The Primitivo di Manduria PDO Mammasanta is undoubtedly the most representative of the Apulian winemaking tradition: a warm and structured wine, with an aroma of red fruit and plum jam, with spicy notes. It is accompanied by Salento IGT Danza Delle Spade, which already in the name recalls the Salento Pizzica or the Apulian Taranta. Perfect to accompany the typical dishes of the Salento gastronomic tradition, Vino.com also recommends it with grilled red meats or snails. Among the typical Sicilian reds we remember the Syrah Vendemmia Tardiva Maravento, from the name of the Lojacono Maraventano palace, emblem of the Sicilian Baroque of the seventeenth century. Deep red in color, with violet reflections, it opens on the nose with a bouquet of black mulberry, licorice, blueberries and currants. Its particular organoleptic profile makes it suitable for accompanying grilled and braised meats, but also goes very well with eggplant Parmigiana and arancine. If, on the other hand, you are looking for a red representative of Calabria, Vino.com recommends the Aglianico Petra Ceci di Montemajor, with an intense and pleasantly persistent aroma, with hints of red fruit and iris. In the mouth it is powerful and fruity, ideal as an accompaniment to dishes based on game and cheeses. The journey to Southern Italy then continues with Equinox Montemajor and other excellences, carefully selected by the sommeliers of Vino.com.
