Massolino
Massolino is an important name in the Barolo area, one of the historic companies of the Consortium for the protection of Barolo and Barbaresco , founded by Giuseppe and Angela Massolino, the sons of Giovanni Massolino. Giovanni was in turn the founder of the company, which was born in Serralunga d'Alba in 1896. An authentic as well as historical reality, which personally experienced the birth, development and definitive explosion of the Barolo phenomenon. But the real turning point came when Giuseppe's three sons - Giovanni, Camilla and Renato - bought new vineyards in the Serralunga area towards the end of the seventies, creating what will be the three great crus of the company: 1.5 hectares of Mar Hungary. , Parafadda of 1.13 and Vigna Rionda of 2.3. To date, the company has a total of 24 hectares that also diversify into other varieties in addition to Nebbiolo intended for the production of Barolo such as Dolcetto , Moscato and Barbera . To pass on Giovanni's passion and knowledge today are the brothers Franco and Roberto, who continue a path that began more than a century ago and which has since been a real point of reference in the denomination of Barolo.
Massolino wine
The first structure of the Massolino winery in the village of Serralunga d'Alba develops under the family manor house, with a first winemaking and aging department. With the purchase of new vineyards at the end of the 1970s, an expansion was necessary, which saw a courageous choice: Giovanni, Camilla and Renato Massolino in fact decided with tenacious obstinacy to leave the historic center of Serralunga intact and to make any further enlargement underground , so that the wines can "be born" and refine in optimal conditions. Today, the old manor house has been renovated and is the heart of the Massolino visitor center, which allows you to taste Massolino wines just a few steps from the grapes that originate them.
Massolino red wine
Red wine has made Massolino one of the most important producers of the Barolo appellation, with wines such as Barolo Vigna Rionda Riserva 2014, defined by the Luigi Veronelli Seminary as "one of the masterpieces of Italian viticulture of excellence" and Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda 2013 and Barolo Parafada 2015 awarded by James Suckling. Over the years there has also been no shortage of results from Italian guides such as Gambero Rosso and international magazines such as Falstaff, with Barolo Margheria 2014, in ninth place among the 100 best wines under € 100. Massolino distinguished himself with structured and complex Barolos, aged in large barrels according to tradition, and celebrated by critics and magazines such as Antonio Galloni (who defines Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda 2015 as a magnificent wine), Jancis Robinson (who rewards Barolo Serralunga with 17 points) and Decanter which also rewards the company's Nebbiolo with 95 points.
Alongside Barolo and Nebbiolo , Massolino sees the production of a very interesting Barbera, a noteworthy Langhe Chardonnay, and the inevitable Moscato and Dolcetto.
