Marotti Campi
For over a century, Marotti Campi wines have told all the beauty of their land: the Marche. The long history of this family-run company starts from the Sant'Amico di Morro d'Alba district, on the gentle hills that reach the Adriatic from the Apennines, where the Marotti family bought a property already in the mid-19th century and began to cultivate its vineyards there since 1886. Over the years, production has been concentrating on the two DOCs that best express the potential of the territory: Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico and Lacrima di Morro d'Alba DOC. The success of the company and its wines led Giovanni Marotti Campi to decide on the construction of the modern cellar, a structure dedicated to winemaking, aging and bottling operations, protected from sudden changes in temperature. From this winery, built in 1999, the excellences of Marotti Campi come out, wines widely appreciated not only for their unique taste, but also because they are produced according to the principles of sustainability and environmental protection. The company, in fact, uses solar panels to cover its energy needs and low-dose products with low environmental impact.
Red wines Marotti Campi
If we think of Marotti Campi red wines, the Lacrima di Morro d'Alba immediately comes to mind, emblem of the terroir of origin, because it is produced exclusively in the locality of the same name and in the neighboring areas. It comes from Lacrima grapes, an ancient vine so called for the purple “tears” that drip from the grapes when they are very ripe. Grown by generations of winemakers, this semi-aromatic wine was also appreciated by Federico Barbarossa, who tasted it in 1167 during the siege of Ancona. From the Lacrima the Marotti Campi family obtains two very famous red wines: the Orgiolo and the Rubico. In addition to Lacrima, Marotti Campi also cultivates other varieties, such as Montepulciano , Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon .
White wines Marotti Campi
Marotti Campi white wines originate in the Castelli di Jesi area, where medieval villages alternate with cultivated areas. An area with a favorable climate for winemaking, which has obtained the DOC recognition. Here Verdicchio reigns, a very ancient vine and the most representative of the Marche , which thanks to its versatility, gives life to intense whites with great structure, but also fresh and delicate on the nose. The hint of almond typical of Verdicchio is perceptible both to the nose and to the taste, while in the more aged wines numerous other hints appear, such as notes of acacia and citrus. The Marotti Campi family produces a variety of white wines ranging from Albiano Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico DOC, to Luzano Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico DOC Superiore, but also Salmariano di Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio Classico DOCG Riserva and Volo D 'Autumn Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico DOC Superiore. Finally, it also produces an excellent sweet wine, the Onyr Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC Passito. On Vino.com you can find both the Luzano Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico DOC Superiore and the Salmariano di Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio Classico DOCG Riserva.
What are the characteristics of the Lacrima di Morro d'Alba wine?
Lacrima di Morro d'Alba is undoubtedly the most iconic red wine of the hills surrounding Morro d'Alba, in the province of Ancona. It comes from Lacrima, a vine whose diffusion has been considerably reduced over time, to the point of covering only the area of origin. This is because the Lacrima grapes are unique and delicate, so much so that they risked extinction, averted only thanks to the experience of the winemakers, modern crops and the conferment of the designation of origin. Marotti Campi therefore dedicates the utmost care and attention to the production of this wine, in all its phases: in the vineyard, the Guyot training method was chosen, which generates excellent quality grapes, while in the cellar, pneumatic presses are used which guarantee soft pressing and avoid any damage to the berries. The resulting wine is an intense ruby red with violet reflections of good structure and acidity. On the nose the Rubico Lacrima di Morro d'Alba DOC has fruity and floral notes, rose, violet, myrtle and cinnamon, while the Orgiolo Lacrima di Morro d'Alba DOC Superiore has hints of rose, blackberry, pink pepper and juniper berries . Two perfect wines when paired with elaborate first courses and meat dishes, both available on Vino.com
What are the characteristics of the Brut?
Spumante Brut Rosè is one of the most important wines produced by the Marotti Campi company. It originates from one of the two main vines of the estate, Lacrima, facing South-South East on a mixed soil tending to clayey. Harvested manually, it is subsequently vinified in white. The second fermentation takes place in autoclave with the Charmat method to preserve the freshness of the characteristic floral aromas of the grape. With its beautiful color reminiscent of rose petals, the Brut Rosé Marotti Campi already conquers the nose with the scent of violets, wild roses, golden apples and memories of sage. It has a perfectly harmonious and fresh taste, with descriptors of currant and sweet almonds. With a fine perlage, but good resistance, this Brut Rosé goes well with fish-based dishes, such as fried, roasted fish and shellfish and is also perfect as an aperitif.
What are the characteristics of the Orgiolo Marotti Campi wine?
The Orgiolo Lacrima di Morro d'Alba DOC Superiore comes from pure Lacrima grapes grown on mixed soil tending to clayey facing South, South-East. Its grapes are harvested by hand and fermentation takes place in steel tanks. This intense ruby red wine stands out for its unique scent of rose, blackberry, pink pepper and juniper berries, all surrounded by hints of oriental spices. On the palate it is fruity and spicy, with a soft tannic texture and a clean finish. Perfect to combine with appetizers with cured meats, with meat-based pasta dishes and meat-based main courses such as roast turkey, duck breast or roast lamb, pork and rabbit.
