Lillet
The history of Lillet vermouth begins in 1680, when Jean Lillet decided to settle in Podensac, a small village in the Graves, a wine area located near Sauternes. His descendants, Raymond and Paul Lillet, founded the Lillet maison in 1872 and the first and only aperitif in Bordeaux was created. It was a blend of wines with fruit-based macerations, still produced today in the same cellar as Podensac. Shortly thereafter, Lillet vermouths established themselves as the aperitif par excellence, served during special occasions and official receptions. Source of inspiration for the famous Vesper cocktail, today it is easy to find it in the trendiest bars in New York.
