Lagavulin
The name Whiskey comes from the Gaelic and means "water of life". The traditional production areas of Single Malt Whiskey in Scotland are the Highlands , the Lowlands, Campbeltown, Speyside , Isles and Islay , famous for its peaty malt whiskeys, with an intense nose and full-bodied taste, aged in oak barrels. Lagavulin , the beating heart of Islay, constantly caressed by the winds coming from the wild sea that bathes the island, has been delighting the demanding palates of Whiskey lovers with a rich and decisive spirit for 200 years. Lagavulin is in fact one of the oldest distilleries on the island of Islay. Legally founded in 1816 by John Johnston, it was originally a conglomerate of 10 illegal distilleries, which had been operating since 1742 and located in the surroundings of Dunyvaig Castle. In 1817 a second distillery managed by Archibald Campbell appeared and on the death of the two distillers, Alexander Graham bought the two distilleries giving rise to today's Lagavulin. Over the years there have been many people at the helm of the Distillery, which is now part of the Diageo Group. Lagavulin produces the island of Islay's most expressive Classic Malts, whiskeys made from malted barley in Port Ellen and with water from Solum Lochs, an area rich in peat. Lagavulin produces different types of Whiskey, perfect expressions of the Islay territory, to be drunk in moments of meditation and relaxation.
