Krug
What to combine Krug Champagne with?
Krug Champagne and Krug Rosé Champagne can be paired with very different dishes. The Krug Grande Cuvée is in its 170th edition and is the result of the blending of over 120 wines from at least 10 different vintages. Every year the optimal blend is chosen to produce one of the best champagnes in the world.
Thanks to its aromas of ripe citrus fruits, flowers and ripe and dried fruit, it goes very well with the whole meal, from the simplest to the most complex dishes. Excellent with dishes based on truffles, it is delicious together with cheese and grilled prawns.
Champagne Rosé is a blend of wines from different vintages of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Thanks to its aromas of rose, peony, mulberry and red currant and pink grapefruit, it goes very well with savory dishes of lamb, duck or venison and can also be enjoyed with spicy cuisine.
A particular combination that the Maison particularly cares about is rice . Very versatile ancient food, rice is used in different countries and always cooked in an original way. Think of the Spanish paella, the myriad of Italian risottos (from risotto alla Milanese with ossobuco, risotto with truffles, risotto creamed with the most diverse cheeses), Japanese sushi. The Maison published the "Krug for rice" cookbook in 2022, which contains recipes from starred chefs of over 25 nationalities.
Who makes the Krug?
Krug Champagne is produced by Maison Krug , one of the historic and most famous Champagne cellars. It was founded in 1843 by Joseph Krug, who wanted to produce a Champagne that always maintained the same quality every year, regardless of weather variations.
Today the Maison is run by the sixth generation of Krugs in the person of Oliver Krug, committed to enhancing the uniqueness of each vineyard and creating an extensive reserve wine library .
How to store a bottle of Krug?
Have you ever seen the so-called pupitre ? They are those wooden structures (and in other materials) built specifically to store bottles of Champagne and sparkling wines upside down. This allows the cork stopper to be kept moist and therefore compact, preventing oxidation of the wine.
The champagne bottles can also be stored horizontally and in a cool place (7-18°C) and with little light. It is also important not to unintentionally shake the bottles, which are under pressure.
