Knoll
Weingut Knoll is a family business that produces high quality wines near Dürnstein, in the Austrian region of Wachau, one of the most famous wine-growing areas in the country. It is a historic winery, which since the mid-nineteenth century has been dedicated to the cultivation of the vine and began to bottle the first wines in the 1950s. It is a reference brand for the region and has always been committed to enhancing the traditional vines of the area and the characteristics of an extraordinary territory. The Wachau region is located north-west of Vienna and represents one of the most qualitatively important wine districts in all of Austria. Although the cultivated area covers a total area of only 1350 hectares, it is famous for its great whites, made mainly with the grüner veltliner and riesling vines vinified in purity. They are wines of great elegance, intensity and aromatic complexity, also endowed with a notable propensity for aging, with the development of refined tertiary notes. The territory runs along the Danube valley, in the stretch of the river between Melk and Krems.
The continental climate is mitigated by the presence of the Danube and by the temperate winds that descend from the plains of Pannonia. The presence of considerable temperature variations gives the grapes a particularly intense and rich aromatic profile. The vineyards are cultivated on steep and steep slopes, often terraced, characterized by the presence of stony and very draining soils, ideal for viticulture. In this splendid landscape, Knoll manages about 15 hectares of vineyards, mainly cultivated with the two symbolic varieties of the territory: the grüner veltliner and riesling. Among the rows there are also other vines historically present in the Wachau region, such as chardonnay, yellow muscat, traminer and pinot noir. The wines have a classic and traditional profile. They come from high quality grapes, carefully selected in the vineyard before proceeding with the vinification. The fermentations are carried out in a simple way, to preserve the varietal characteristics of the vines and the refinements are often carried out using large barrels, which allow a harmonious aging of the wines without any transfer of hints of wood. The Weingut Knoll labels represent real excellences of the territory, essential for those who want to know the authentic face of the great wines of the Wachau.
