Geografico
Agricoltori del Chianti Geografico was born in 1961 from the meeting of 17 winemakers united by a common goal: to produce and promote the wines of Radda, Gaiole and Castellina in Chianti. Since then, the Chianti Geografico community has grown, so much so that many more winemakers have been brought together and the historic Gaiole winery has been founded. In 1989 a second winery was built in San Gimignano and from 2018 Agricoltori del Chianti Geografico became part of Tenute Piccini and gathers 60 producer members, whose vineyards fall within the Chianti Classico , Chianti Colli Senesi and Vernaccia di San Gimignano appellations. Geografico wines represent Tuscany and its most important denominations. In fact, the Chianti Classico Geografico is obtained from vineyards located between the municipalities of Castellina in Chianti, Gaiole in Chianti, Radda in Chianti and Castelnuovo Berardenga, the territories of origin of Chianti. Chianti Colli Senesi is produced with grapes grown in the province of Siena and Vernaccia di San Gimignano with grapes from the vineyards of the Tuscan town of the same name. The beating heart of the Geografico are the people, who have been working continuously for more than half a century, demonstrating a strong sense of identity and great respect for the territory and for the Sangiovese grape.
Chianti Geografico red wine
Among the red wines of the Farmers of the Chianti Geografico we cannot fail to mention the Chianti Classico Contessa di Radda. Produced for the first time in 1978, the name derives from the Countess Willa of Tuscany, mother of the "Great Baron", the Marquis Ugo of Tuscany , mentioned by Dante in the Divine Comedy. Countess Willa played a central role in the strategic expansion of Radda in Chianti, which is why her face was chosen to identify the Chianti Geografico.
