Gaja
The Gaja family settled in Piedmont already in the mid-seventeenth century. Since then, 5 generations have alternated in wine production since Giovanni Gaja founded the winery in Barbaresco , in the Langhe area, in 1859. Currently, the family owns vineyards located in the Barbaresco and Barolo areas . The company's production choices have always been inspired by total dedication to quality, so much so as to make Gaja a leading brand on the Italian market.
The patriarch of the company, Angelo Gaja, is one of those characters who have changed the events of Italian wine for the better, a marketing pioneer and the first to aim for the presence of his wines in the lists of the best restaurants in the world and in comparison with the most prestigious French red wines and more.
Gaja
Gaja was an innovator above all in the method, first of all to introduce the use of the barrique in Piedmont, and in the extreme selection, which brings his wines to a level far above the market in terms of price.
Angelo Gaja's mantra is “To do, to know how to do, to know how to do, to make known”. His French grandmother taught him this, when the little winemaker was 11 years old, and it was the phrase that has always accompanied his life and the actions of a man who has never been afraid to confront himself, who knew how to learn, who above all has able to communicate its wines, making them a symbol of Made in Italy in the world.
Gaja red wine
The most famous Gaja red wine is probably the Barbaresco , obtained exclusively from the selection of Nebbiolo grapes in the vineyards owned by the company, and followed step by step by the Gaja family. Aged in barrique, in large casks or in bottles, year after year each of its Barbarescos gets top marks both from national guides such as Gambero Rosso and Vitae and from international critics such as Wine Spectator , Robert Parker and James Suckling. Much more than a simple red wine: Gaja is synonymous with collectible wines, wines present only in the best restaurants in the world, for a luxury company that is luxury itself, with legendary wines such as Barbaresco 1985, defined by the magazine Wine Spectator “the best wine ever produced in Italy”.
What is the longevity of Gaja Barbaresco?
The Gaja Barbaresco has a longevity that can be comparable to the great Barolos or the great Brunello and Nebbiolo .
What is the best pairing of Gaja Barolo?
Gaja Barolo is an ideal wine to pair with noble and important dishes such as game, great roasts or long-aged cheeses such as Castelmagno. However, if you share it with someone who loves red wines, we recommend that you taste it as a meditation wine to appreciate every single nuance.
