Fontodi
Fontodi, one of the most important wineries in the province of Florence, extends for 170 hectares in the heart of the Chianti Classico . More precisely, it is located south of Panzano, in the so-called “Conca d'oro”, an area of the Chianti Classico particularly suited to quality viticulture. To ensure the production of perfect grapes are the high altitude of the area, the light that shines on the vineyards and a favorable microclimate, as well as the presence of soils rich in marl. A productive potential that the Manetti family - already renowned for the production of terracotta - has been able to exploit since 1968 by cultivating the vineyards with Sangiovese grapes. Even today, it continues its activity according to the principles of sustainability and respect for the environment, rejecting chemical products and favoring the company's internal resources.
Fontodi Red Wine
With over 80 hectares of land planted with vineyards, the Manetti family carefully chooses their grapes, which are hand-picked and vinified in order to fully express the potential of the Panzano area. Among the main Fontodi red wines obtained from the Sangiovese grape we remember the Chianti Classico, an icon of Tuscan wine, as well as the Vigna del Sorbo Chianti Classico Gran Selezione and the Flaccianello della Pieve. Vinsanto del Chianti Classico, Case Via Pinot Nero, Case Via Syrah and Meriggio are also very popular.
What are the characteristics of the Chianti Classico Fontodi?
The Chianti Classico Fontodi DOCG, grown under organic farming in various vineyards within the company, is the workhorse of the estate. The vine is grown with the Guyot training system, which guarantees the production of excellent quality grapes. The grapes are then spontaneously fermented in stainless steel tanks. The aging takes place in French oak barriques. The Chianti Classico DOCG is the most important wine of the company, with 170,000 bottles produced. Where is the Cantina Fontodi located?
The Fontodi company is located in the municipality of Greve in Chianti, in the province of Florence. This is the original area of Chianti wine production, already recognized by the Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo III in 1716. A reality that at the time was so important that it led the Grand Duke to set up a supervisory congregation to control the trade of wines, their shipping and prevented any fraud. Today as then, the Chianti Classico red wine produced by the Manetti family is entirely obtained from Sangiovese grapes.
