Elena Walch
The history of the Elena Walch Winery begins 150 years ago in the heart of the small town of Termeno on the Wine Route, in South Tyrol. Obtained from the subsoil in natural stone, the cellar was born in the name of sustainability and over the years has been modernized and transformed into one of the most beautiful and traditionally rich private cellars in the region. Elena Walch's wines are artfully created from the best grapes following a sustainable approach, in full respect of nature and the environment. The considerable extension of the vineyards owned by the family contributes to making the winery one of the most productive in all of South Tyrol.
Elena Walch: the South Tyrolean terroir
Elena Walch's business philosophy is closely linked to her terroir: in fact, all the efforts of this winery have always been focused on obtaining wines that are the unique expression of their soil, climate and work done in the vineyard. Precisely for this reason sustainability is a concrete reality: in the vineyard we work without compromise, respecting the individual characteristics of the single vineyard and enhancing it. The same respect for nature continues in the cellar, with the coverage of 45% of the total energy consumption thanks to the installation of a photovoltaic system, the partial recycling of water, and the use of gravity for the various stages of winemaking, and also in the packaging, with the partial use of capsules of vegetable origin, and 100% recyclable, and of lighter glass to have a lower production of carbon dioxide. Elena Walch also and above all means terroir, because an important selection work was carried out in the vineyards, with the election of real Crus, among which the two vineyards VIGNA Castel Ringberg in Caldaro and VIGNA Kastelaz in Tramin stand out, made this winery one of the most important and well-known in South Tyrol for the high quality of its wines.
Elena Walch white wine
Elena Walch's white wine is the real engine of the company. Elena Walch obtains elegant white wines rich in aromas, from grapes that have found their happy island in South Tyrol, such as Sauvignon and Pinot Bianco , but above all from Gewürztraminer, thanks to which this company has managed to obtain international awards, and which today is considered probably the best in all of South Tyrol. The production of Elena Walch includes single-variety wines from grapes from the Castel Ringberg estate, above Lake Caldaro, various wines resulting from the assembly of the owned vineyards and the large cuvée line, born from the best selection of grapes during the harvest period. Fresh and fruity white wines, which stand out for character and personality, leave room for concentrated and soft reds, obtained from Pinot Noir , Merlot , Schiava and Lagrein .
How to combine Elena Walch's Gewürztraminer?
Elena Walch's Gewürztraminer is excellent as an aperitif but not only. In fact, it is also perfect to accompany molluscs and crustaceans, especially prawns and lobsters, as well as being suitable also in combination with Asian dishes and blue cheeses.
What red wine does Elena Walch produce?
Elena Walch produces red wine mainly from typical Alto Adige grapes, such as Pinot Nero, Lagrein and Schiava, but her Merlot is also noteworthy. All its reds are rich in character and personality, as befits the South Tyrolean reds.
What makes Elena Walch Beyond the Clouds so special?
Elena Walch Beyond the Clouds is so special thanks to the maniacal selection of the grapes from which it is made but above all thanks to the refinement in French oak barrels for about 10 months and for a further 6 months in the bottle, which gives this wine a complexity of extraordinary aromas.
