Egon Müller
A name about which by now there is very little to say that of Egon Müller, certainly among the most counted wineries in Germany and beyond, who has climbed the rankings and won many international awards since his birth in 1797. Already at the beginning of the 20th century century Müller's Moselle Rieslings were known and appreciated throughout Europe, already reaching very high prices for the time. The company, which is located on the splendid family estate near Wiltingen, owns 16 hectares almost entirely in Riesling: about 8 hectares of Scharzhofberg, 4 of Wiltinger and the remaining used for the QBA - the German correspondent of our PGI.
Some of these vines, as in other Moselle wineries, resisted the phylloxera epidemic of the 19th century and are over 100 years old, producing a truly rare quality of wines, albeit with minimal yield. Through the skilful dosage of the noble rot Botrytis - even in Rieslings usually drier such as Kabinet - wines with residual sugar are produced, according to what is the philosophy pursued by the Müller family. These Rieslings are therefore among the most appreciated and sought after whites in the world, true icons of the Moselle region, cult wines, capable of aging like few other Rieslings.
