Dopff au Moulin
Dopff au Moulin is a historic Alsatian winery, located in the heart of the most renowned Grand Cru in the area. The origins of the Domaine date back to 1574 and for centuries the art of growing grapes and making wine has been handed down from generation to generation, up to the present day. Over the centuries, the original nature of vigneron and the rigorous commitment to produce with the Dopff au Moulin brand only wines of high quality, made with the best grapes of the estate and aged in the cellars with patience and respect for ancient traditions. An ancient savoir-faire, based on the deep knowledge of the best Alsatian terroirs that are located near the ancient and fascinating medieval city of Riquewihr. Today the company is run by three generations, Pierre Dopff, Honorary President, his son Pierre-Étienne, President and Etienne-Arnaud general manager. The town of Riquewihr is located at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level, near the splendid hilly area at the foot of the Vosges Mountains, which shelters the vineyards from the cold north winds and rainy disturbances coming from the west. A sort of providential barrier against bad weather, which creates a very special microclimate that is very favorable to viticulture. The exposures facing south, with perfect sunshine, and the very suitable soils, allow grapes with intense and rich aromatic notes to ripen. The Domaine Dopff au Moulin extends over a total area of 70 hectares and is the largest estate in the famous Grand Cru area.
The vineyards are located in the Schoenenbourg area, known as one of the best terroirs for Riesling, in Hunawihr, Mittelwihr, Hardt de Colmar and Eichberg-Brand de Turkheim. In addition to the production of excellent still wines, the winery is famous for an ancient tradition in the elaboration of Crémant d'Alsace. It all began in 1900. Julien Dopff attends a practical demonstration on the Champenoise Method at the Universal Exposition in Paris. The idea of creating Alsatian wines in the same style was immediately born. After a two-year internship in Èpernay, to learn all the secrets of Champagne, Julien Dopff begins to produce refermented sparkling wines in the bottle in the land of Alsace. Thus began the adventure of Crémant d'Alsace, which is still one of the winery's most successful labels today. Dopff au Moulin was among the first wineries to bottle their own wine and thus conquer, first the market of Paris, then of France and then of Europe. Today the Dopff au Moulin wines are among the best excellences of Alsace and return the characteristics of an extraordinary wine region in the glass.
