Domaines Barons de Rothschild
The winemaking history of the Rothschild family has centuries-old roots in France and beyond, through multiple possessions scattered throughout the country as well as in Chile and Argentina. The domaine, which derives from the Gascon term "la hite" (literally "hill"), has ancient origins, which date back to the medieval feud of the fourteenth in the heart of the Médoc, where wine was already being produced, but it became famous in the following centuries when it was recognized as the best Bordeaux wine tasted at the court of Versailles. Château Lafite was elected leader among the fine wines grouped in the classification of the Great Wines of Bordeaux of 1855.
It was in 1868 that Baron James de Rothschild took over the Château continuing the great winemaking tradition of Lafite. To date, in addition to the exclusive and now iconic production of Bordeaux wines, the company owns various wineries in various wine terroirs from all over the world, among which the Chilean one stands out, in the Colchagua Valley, absolutely one of the first experiments in enhancing the territory , which today produces one of the best results of this type.
