Contadi Castaldi
The Contadi Castaldi company takes its name from the ancient 'contadi' that is the counties of Franciacorta assigned to the management of the 'Castaldi', the lords who owned the control and took care of their maintenance. Today, in an ideal commitment to safeguard these lands and their products, Contadi Castaldi remains one of the most representative companies of Franciacorta. With respect to the knowledge of the territory, Contadi Castaldi proudly expresses a passion for climatic and geological details which, through zoning practices, are able to restore the peculiarities of the three vines used in the production of the precious Franciacorta: Chardonnay , Pinot Nero and Pinot Blanc thus dialogue in the construction of sparkling wines with a unique and passionate touch, merging peculiarities and ancient traditions with the most modern winemaking techniques. An example is also represented by the shape of the ideal bottle chosen for the Franciacortas: a bottle with a shorter neck and a wider radius of curvature that allows to dilate the contact surface of the yeasts and to express an intense and refined taste. A harmonious and evidently more marked result is due to the prolonged and widespread interaction of the yeasts.
Compared to the production commitment, different methods of working the vineyards identifiable thanks to different geological peculiarities remain at the origin of the construction of the cuvées. To dominate all the varieties, Chardonnay is the grape capable of imparting elegance and freshness with a regular ripening and an excellent balancing effect. To all these practices is also added the conservative intervention with which Contadi Castaldi recovers authentic and solid roots with respect to the territory: the headquarters of the cellar renovated in the second half of the twentieth century on the foundations of the Biasca furnace that Vittorio Moretti decided to take over on the impulse of a strong family memory. The galleries that have been carefully recovered for the refinement of Franciacorta are about 7,000 square meters today.
The Franciacorta Contadi Castaldi
Franciacorta is such a special region for Italian viticulture that the Contadi Castaldi winery has chosen to contribute to its charm by enhancing its name and prestige through the creation of unique cuvées. Familiarization with Franciacorta has also involved the company in a careful study of the territory through zoning practices capable of respecting very different styles and pedoclimatic conditions from area to area. Since the second half of the last century, Contadi Castaldi has started an intervention process which has included, in addition to the restructuring of the Briasca furnace, aimed at the conservation of sparkling wines, the redefinition of the volume of the bottles used in the sparkling process with the aim of improving the contact surface with the yeasts during the second phase of refermentation. A conservative intervention that involved the establishment of various environments including a large space for events and the planning of tailor-made visits to the cellar to make these wonderful Franciacortas known and appreciated.
