Claudio Cipressi
Claudio Cipressi represents a real symbol of Molise wine. The winery is located in Contrada Montagna in San Felice del Molise, in the hilly hinterland between Vasto and Termoli, about twenty kilometers from the sea. The choice to devote himself to the world of wine was born from the desire to enhance his land and to make known its excellence. Molise is a small region that preserves an area of uncontaminated nature and historically very suitable for the cultivation of the vine. In these lands viticulture has been practiced since the time of the ancient Romans and the custom has been handed down to the present day as a precious heritage, based on an ancient peasant know-how. It is in this wonderful landscape context that Claudio Cipressi gave life to his project. The estate covers a total of about fifteen hectares, at an altitude of about 600 meters above sea level. The climate is cool and breezy, always mitigated by the beneficial influence of the sea breezes. In the vineyard, the historical varieties of the region have been privileged, first of all the tintilia, which covers 12 hectares and then montepulciano, falanghina and trebbiano.
Tintilia is an ancient red grape variety cultivated in Molise for centuries, especially in the innermost areas of the region. Progressively abandoned in favor of more well-known and profitable varieties from a commercial point of view, it has been rediscovered in recent decades, thanks to the renewed interest in native grapes and the tenacity of some local winemakers. It is a rather vigorous grape variety, which loves a cool climate and strong temperature variations. Of medium productivity, it gives intense and structured wines, characterized by aromas of red fruit, undergrowth and spices. Claudio Cipressi manages his vineyards under organic farming, in full respect of a natural environment rich in biodiversity. The goal of his work in the countryside is to bring healthy and genuine grapes to maturity, an indispensable prerequisite for making great wines. The harvest takes place with manual harvesting and selection of the best grapes in the vineyard. The cellar practices are limited to accompanying the grapes to the transformation into wine in the most natural way possible, with the aim of producing labels faithful to the characteristics of the grapes and the territory. Thus was born a range of high quality wines, in which some versions of Tintilia stand out, among the best ever.
