Chapoutier
Chapoutier is an exceptional French Maison based in Tain l'Hermitage, in the Rhone Valley. In this land rich in history and tradition, the Chapoutier family began its wine business as early as 1808. With Polydor Chapoutier, a distant ancestor of the family, the first owned vineyards were purchased and at the end of the nineteenth century the company, then called " Delépine et Chapoutier "exports its wines to Holland, Switzerland and Germany. Over the course of the following century, the company witnessed notable changes: a new property was purchased and a new cellar was built, the name changed to “M. Chapoutier ”and Michel Chapoutier, the current patron of the company, enters the scene. With his unconventional vision of things, Michel initiates a path of change in the production of wine: to the ancient traditions of the past he joins his belief in biodynamic cultivation. According to Michel, in fact, it is nature that always has the last word and the winegrower must take care to listen to it. This philosophy was then exported outside of France, when over the past 20 years, new estates and vineyards were purchased in Australia, Portugal and Spain. Today, alongside Michel and Corinne there are Mathilde and Maxime, the new generation of the Chapoutier family, who are committed to bringing out in their wines the specific characteristics of each individual terroir: from the wines of the Fac & Spera line, which originate from individual vineyards carefully selected, from the classic Grand Cru of the Maison, to the easier tasting base wines of the Tradition line.
Chapoutier red wine
Chapoutier red wine is born with respect for the terroir of origin, the grapes and the consumer. For the Maison Chapoutier, this means listening to the land and letting it express freely, the basic principle of biodynamic cultivation. It also means giving specific attention to every single parcel and producing all wines, from the simplest ones to the most prestigious selections, with the same passion and dedication. The flagships of the Chapoutier winery are the red wines of the Fac & Spera line ("do and hope", which is also the Maison's motto): rare and extremely fine wines, born from the most ancient vines. Considered a photograph of a specific vintage and a specific terroir, this selection is the emblem par excellence of biodynamic wine. The wines of the Excellence line are wines for connoisseurs, considered the quintessence of several owned vineyards: an example is the Monier de la Sizeranne, available on Vino.com. It is an elegant and round red, produced with 100% Syrah grapes from the vineyards of Tain l'Hermitage, north of the Rhone Valley. The Prestige line, on the other hand, includes the classic Grand Crus, representative of the various denominations of the Rhône Valley: some examples are the Cornas Les Arènes, obtained with Syrah grapes harvested and selected entirely by hand, which stands out for its fruity aromas of jam raspberry and blackcurrant; or, Côte-Rôtie Les Bécasses, a wine with a strong personality, starting with its unmistakable color: a deep, intense purple red. These and other Grand Crus of the Maison Chapoutier are available on Vino.com.
