Château Mouton-Rothschild
Château Mouton Rothschild is one of the most prestigious maison of Bordeaux and one of only 5 Premier Cru Classé. The company was founded in 1853 when Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild bought the land of the then Château Brane-Mouton in Pauillac, in the heart of the Médoc, which has since become Mouton Rothschild. In 1924, Baron Philippe de Rothschild, Nathaniel's great-grandson, asked the graphic artist and artist Jean Carlu. Since then, contemporary artists of the caliber of Bacon, Picasso, Mirò and Dalì have signed the labels of Château Mouton Rothschild every year.
In 1973, thanks to the tenacity of Baron Philippe, the Château obtained the classification of Premier Cru Classé, of which it was unjustly deprived in the classification of 1855. To date, the vineyard area of the company extends for about 90 hectares in Pauillac, north-west of Bordeaux, where the Cabernet Sauvignon grape probably reaches its best expressions. In addition to Cabernet Sauvignon, other typical varieties of the Bordeaux terroir are also grown, such as Merlot (15%), Cabernet Franc (3%) and Petit Verdot (1%), for a production of wines of absolute quality, which have now entered the collective imagination as a synonym of excellence and luxury.
