Casa d'Ambra
Casa d'Ambra is a small family business that produces wines with a typically artisanal face in the wonderful and fascinating natural scenery of the island of Ischia. For over half a century, the cellar has been a solid reference point for Ischian wines and the most ancient traditions have been handed down from generation to generation up to the present day. Thanks to a deep knowledge of the territory and an ancient know-how, Casa d'Ambra is able to offer a range of labels that represent the best expression of Ischia's viticulture. The origins of the winery date back to the late nineteenth century, when Francesco d'Ambra began to devote himself to the cultivation of the family estate with great passion and competence. His wines soon conquered the Naples market and were appreciated in Italy and on foreign markets. Even today the company has preserved the spirit of its origins, focusing only on the typical vines of the area.
The autochthonous white grape varieties biancolella, forastera, falanghina and the red grape varieties for '' e palummo or piedirosso, Aglianico and Guarnaccia are grown between the rows. The love for the historical varieties of the island and the desire to preserve their memory, led to the creation of an experimental vineyard, which represents a sort of "genetic database", where extinct varieties have been planted such as: garnaccello, coda di horse, red streppa, rillottola, uvarilla don lunardo, catalanesca, uvaromana, procidana grapes and coglionara grapes. The cultivation of vines on the island of Ischia has very ancient origins, which date back to the first Hellenic colonization of the eighth century BC The mild and windy climate, typically Mediterranean and the soils of ancient volcanic origin, have always proved to be a perfect habitat for screw. The vines are cultivated at an altitude between 100 and 500 meters above sea level, often on steep terraced slopes with dry stone walls, on soils composed of tuff and other mineral components deriving from the disintegration of volcanic rocks, sands and lapilli. It is a laborious viticulture, which requires manual processing, with the transport of the grapes on small rack monorails. Tenuta Casa d'Ambra owns 4 hectares of vineyard in Frassitelli, one hectare in Montecorvo and buys grapes from small local farmers with whom there is a consolidated relationship of collaboration. Its labels are the result of careful work in the vineyard and delicate vinification aimed at preserving the authentic taste of the territory.
